Two hours from cloud to earth

snowfall

Snow... that curiously peaceful, curiously quiet, curiously magical winter weather. And here you are out in it.

scenarios

  1. It's a winter wonderland, just where you want to be.
  2. The best part about snow is getting inside and having some hot cocoa by a warm fire. Or something stronger, perhaps?
  3. There's nothing like snowfall to inspire artwork--men, angels, snow goons... and it's just the right consistency to do what you like.
  4. Or perhaps this means WAR. Incoming!
  5. Actually, wait, no, you didn't mean to be out here in the snow, and this is kind of bad, or maybe it is very bad. This is why Mom always told you to bring thermals!
  6. wildcard! it's snowing do anything.

[Perhaps it is only the fact that he is no more human than she is that feels familiar?]

There was not many mountains were I lived, but there was a very large hill where I built my fortress. Himring, or the ever-cold in the common tounge. It was always quite chilly there, as the name implies, and the winters were quite harsh... but I loved it for all that it was a hard place to live in.

[And he had not truly felt the cold anyways, the fire inside him always kept him warm.]

[perhaps one of the few tangible benefits of fëanor being your dad]

[Myrrh tilts her head a little as she considers this. Was it a matter of necessity that he chose an inhospitable place to make his home? If it was a fortress, then probably it was.

But then she nods, understanding a little, if not fully. She does know that the people of Caer Pelyn have a great deal of affection for their inhospitable surroundings.]

I wonder why that is... that you can like a place more because it's hard to live in. [She holds her hand out, letting a snowflake fall on it.] They complain about the snow, but it comforts them at the same time.

[Yup, it's about the only benefit that doesn't come with a lot of drawbacks

He could have chosen safer lands if he'd wished to, but he was loath to leave the least defensible lands to one of his younger relatives. But he'd grown to love those lands with time, partly because he'd had to fight so hard to keep them for as long as he did.

That sort of struggle tends to breed an attatchment to the place you strive to hold.]

It's because you have to fight so hard for it. When you shed your blood, sweat and tears into the land you live on it becomes almost like a part of yourself. [He gives the girl a soft smile.] People are often contradictory creatures. The things they grumble at the most are often the same things they'd miss most of all should it suddenly be taken away.

...They are. I'm still learning to understand them. [The time she spent with Ephraim and Eirika's army was brief, and while she has learned more about people in those months than she may have in centuries, there is still much she has yet to understand.] I think they would be very sad if there was ever a winter that didn't have snow for them to shovel.

The villagers near my home have lived there for many of their lifetimes. They are very proud of the mountains. I think they are prouder because so few people live the way they do, so far from everyone else. Is... was Himring like that, too?

[Because he spoke of it it the past tense, didn't he? Maybe Himring no longer exists. Maybe it rose and fell, as so many places do, in a scant few hundred years.]

It's fine, I've been a bit busy myself!

I don't think I'll ever be able to fully understand them. [He says as he looks out upon the people going about their way in the snow. He likes humans, at least most of the time he does, but they often confuse him.] I think you might be right. Snow can be troublesome at times but it holds a peculiar sort of beauty you'll be hard pressed to find in anything else. And, at least in my own lands, it came with certain protections as well. Most armies won't try to invade or besiege you during winter...

...It was a bit like that. We lived in harsh and dangerous lands, closer to the enemy than most others, and we took pride in how we overcame those challanges to thrive in that land and how we often thwarted the enemy in them.

[Only ancient ruins remained of it now on a small island, for the very continent it had exsisted in had sunk beneath the waves during the War of Wrath.]
