You're in a deep, dark pit that you can't climb out of easily, and you're trapped together. Maybe it was a trapping pit, maybe it was an open manhole cover, maybe an uncovered well or elaborate secret trap in a spooky house - but whatever the cause was, you two fell for it. Literally.

[He whips out his tricorder. It bleeps and bloops a couple times, then he grumbles under his breath, hits a sequence to restart it, and looks around while he waits.]

but nothing important seems to be actually broken, so it dials down its pain receptors as far as it dares, and continues taking its own stock of the situation while Kirk messes with his little scanner thingy. ]

It might not be a ventilation shaft. It could just be a really deep hole that they dug for no reason, I guess. [ though it's running back the visual of their fall as it speaks, and yeah, those gaps in the walls are definitely the openings of other shafts. ducts? vents? (look, it's a murderbot, not a habitat engineer dammit, jim.) ]
