Stranded... out there

Disaster. Your plane crashed, your boat holed, your guide has left you stranded in the depths of the wilderness. Certainly, your surroundings are beautiful in their way, but we all know that nature is long on majesty and short on mercy. And unlike those guys on the Discovery Channel, there isn't a Motel 6 around you can pop into.

  1. Desert. Whether it's cacti and hardpan, or dunes and sidewinders, you'd better find an oasis fast. And take care... it gets cold at night.
  2. Jungle. Ah, the rainforest, that thriving hotspot of biodiversity! ...and just as many toxic compounds as there are species.
  3. Tundra. Doesn't matter if it's Farenheit or Celsius, the thermometer is too many digits in the negative. But hey, at least there might be penguins.
  4. Mountains. You might be hungry and windburnt, but the view is unmatched. Watch that first step, it's a doozy!
  5. Savanna. Lions and termites and baobab, oh my... Never mind looking for food, you might be food if you aren't careful. And stay out of trenches with too many wildebeest.
  6. Deep forest. The woods are quiet, dark, and deep. Do you know how to tell edible puffballs from Destroying Angel? Better learn quick.
  7. Deep space. Maybe the ship has lost its engines and is drifting towards nowhere fast, or maybe it's a space station long abandoned, but you know what they say--no one can hear you scream.
  8. Island. Let's face it, it would be nice, if it had been your idea to be here. Where did the Swiss Family Robinson find all that stuff, anyway?
  9. Motel. Never mind, there is a Motel 6. No, wait--Motel 5? Oh boy. You really wish they hadn't left the light on, because nothing it reveals is something you want to see.

Problems:

  1. Weather: It's turning for the worse and you need a place to hide.
  2. Hostile wildlife: Whether it's looking for lunch or wants you off its patch, this is going to be a problem.
  3. No luggage ...or anything else, including food, water, or shelter.
  4. Hurt: Perfect time to practice making splints out of sticks!
  5. Other! Listen, it's a big world, it has lots of ways to make you miserable.

"Just so you know, if you bitch about the sand one more time, I will bury you up to your neck in it," Garth'zel says more calmly than he feels. He's cranky enough about being stuck on some backwater (non-Tattooine) planet with a broken down speeder as it is. Anakin's whining is not required.

"You can try." There's certainly a Dark enough feel to Anakin to suggest he might be spoiling for a fight - but he does only grumble it out under his breath. It's up to the actual Sith to decide whether to ignore it or not.

But Anakin is also the one working on the speeder and most of his bitching is about how difficult the sand is making his work and irritating his right arm.

"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that," Garth'zel says mildly. "Any luck, or are we going to need to give up and start walking?"

He would rather not go walking through desert if he doesn't have to.

At least Anakin is mature enough not to mouth mocking replies but given his mood right now? He's really temped.

He isn't so mature however to not pound his (left) fist against the speeder. "It's fixable but I don't have the tools to do it or the new filters to keep the engine from choking." He's bitching for a reason.

"So in other words, time to start walking," Garth'zel says evenly. He takes a moment to gauge where they were to the nearest settlement in his mental map of the place, and squints at the sky to estimate the time.

"May be best to upend it to provide some shade and then start walking after it gets dark and is at least marginally cooler. Unless you have another idea, desert boy?" Okay, so that last was petty.

"Time to plan the walk, at least." Ever impulsive, he still knew better.

"Upend it and dig, the lower sands are going to be cooler than the top." Grumble grumble grumble. "That will help prevent some dehydration." He knew what killed out here - it wasn't the heat first. "Walking will at least keep us warm, it's probably going to drop to near freezing within a couple hours after twilight."

And he's planning on SOMEHOW making sure sand ended up in a certain Sith's underwear just to prove a point. Anakin was already moving to fold and tuck his own clothing to stop as much as possible.

Garth'zel grumbles and gives the speeder the stink eye. "Looks like it's time for you to finish fighting with its insides so we can get it on its side. ...And figure out how to angle it and not have it flatten us."

Anakin better not start shit he may not be able to finish.

"That's what some of the insides are for." As well as shovels, which he'd have to batter into shape. Anakin lifted the speeder at a thirty-five-degree angle. "Give me a hand with this part." Holding it at this angle. Anakin didn't wait to see if Garth'zel would - he just assumed he would, given they needed it for their shelter - he just started working. Pulling the panels off to make sides and kicking them into stands.

It was going to take a few minutes at least to accomplish it.
