It's not a rock, all right? We all know it's not a rock, fantasy authors.

You and your thread partner have found a dragon egg!
- Unexpected treasure: You knew there was something in this box, but not that it was this...
- Put that thing back or so help me! This is not what you signed up for. You would desperately like to get out of this game of very hot potato.
- Hide it! Nefarious people are after the egg and you need to keep it from them.
- Jackpot! You are nefarious people. This is great.
- Sacred trust: You've been charged with this by someone or something.
- Wildcard!
Roxanne | Jewel Kingdom (2020)
Shinjiro Aragaki | Persona 3
[It's like the ASPCA but for unicorns and shit. One of those pigeon/feral cat griffins is shrieking in a veterinary cage across the room, indignant at having to recover from its wing injury in such a place. Shinjiro's hand is still scratched to shit from the last time he had to change the litter in there. Little fucker.
Outside is the rehab paddock for the larger creatures, lining the walls is an array of mostly-vacant pens for critters, as well as all the donated supplies like blankets and food and whatever else.... And then in the middle of the room of the table, the most recent rescue that had been brought in! A heavy, dense, egg, carried in by a construction worker who had unearthed the den with a backhoe and thought "well since I touched it, the mom wouldn't come back, right?"
How the fuck no one noticed an entire dragon den before they started digging, he has no fucking idea, but he doesn't get paid to figure that shit out. (In fact, he doesn't get paid at all. That volunteer life.)
Anyway, for now he's cursing at the makeshift incubator, plugging in yet another ceramic heater, and trying to figure our where to clip it on the side of the box.]
What's the temp range on this supposed to be again? I feel like we're just gonna start a damn fire with this....
[is it even legal to keep this. Man, he has no idea. Someone's gonna come back from lunch and pitch a fuckin' fit.]
----
Anything else?
[tag me with anything, request a starter, it's all good. Let's be dragon parents.]
Serena | Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V

Anyway, time to start and actual prompt.]
[As far as insane, completely ridiculous things in her life when, this probably was... not even in the top ten, if she's being completely honest.
That said, ending up travelling into another dimension (that wasn't one of the four that she was familiar with) with Yuzu and having someone shove a glowing red and green egg into her hands yelling at her and Yuzu to keep "the dragon egg" safe before they ran off was still pretty weird.]
...What just happened?
no subject
[ Honestly, at this point, unexpectedly ending up in an unfamiliar dimension with little warning is... becoming way too much of a familiar feeling to Yuzu. She's not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
In any case, the person that shoved the "dragon egg" into Serena's hands was gone before either of them could even begin to ask any questions. ]
I... uh...
[ She has no clue, Serena... it does look like wherever they've ended up, it's a pretty fantastical world (the fact that Serena is holding a glowing egg the size of her head only adds to that notion), but they're still standing out in the middle of nowhere.
In any case, Yuzu glances at the egg in Serena's arms... glowing an admittedly familiar combination of colors. Still, that has to be a coincidence, right? ]
It... it can't seriously be a dragon egg, can it?
[ She bends down to put her hands on the egg and... well, there's definitely a considerable amount of warmth pulsing off of it. ]
no subject
...Wait no that last thing completely invalidated the point, didn't it? Either way, they're here, in wherever-the-hell. With a egg. That's hot.]
We'll probably find out whenever this thing hatches. [She pauses, looking around the... well, forest that they seemed to be in. ]
We do have more important things to worry about. First thing is that we need to find the nearest town.
no subject
[ Honestly, more than the heat, there's something incredibly familiar about it... aside from the colors, that is. Thinking about it logically, having a dragon egg must come with a bunch of problems that neither of them are likely equipped to deal with, but... ]
Right! We need answers, after all, but... should we try to hide the egg? We'll probably attract attention carrying it around... and we were told to protect it after all.
no subject
I don't know how we're going to do that, we know nothing about where we are or where to go. So if we just hide it in some bushes we might not find it again...
[She thinks about it for another moment. ]
Also if the egg gets hot enough it might just set everything on fire and then we have a different problem.
Annaliese | Original
Oh goodness, you don't really think–
[ Anyone with a smidge more self preservation than Annaliese would probably be a little more cautious at the prospect of hatching and raising an entire-ass dragon but she's handling the thing with the slightly too intense, bright eyed delight of a cat that's just come across a delicious mouse to play with.
And, well. You know that old saying about cats and their curiosity. ]
Will it hatch naturally, do you think? Or will we need to provide it some source of heat? I know that as babies they're terribly susceptible to catching a chill...
w-w-wildcard!
[ i'm good with all the prompts, including 'jackpot' – though that one would need to be modified a bit since Annaliese isn't a particularly nefarious/malicious character. ]
I need to figure out what Sheyd actually looks like so I can stop using this iconic Genshin man
[While one might expect a being as old as Sheyd to understand how babies work, it's not as though he or his fellows came into being at all in the same way. That being the case, he's gladly given all rights to hold and care for the egg over to Annaliese. At least for now. In human form, he watches them with amusement and interest. Of course, in human form, far fewer barriers stop him from engaging with things in this messy, material world of hers.]
Perhaps that's where the fire-breathing comes in? Then again, given dragons' more reptilian features, perhaps their spawning habits are likely similar. Do lizards incubate their future young?
no subject
[ She's been holding the egg up reverently in her hands, turning it so the burnished surface catches the sunlight – but at that, she shoots him a look along with a wry smile. ]
Of course, that's only what's been written. I haven't been quite so lucky as to ask one in person myself.
[ With that, she settles the egg back against her chest, doing her best to add a little of her own body heat just to keep it from catching too much of a chill. ]
Perhaps we could find some way of incubating it for the time being while I do some research? Something this precious should be handled delicately.
no subject
[He's smiling, but he's also considering. A look out over their craggy surroundings reveals little but rocks and air, but aren't mountains often where dragons make their homes? If terrain like this is the egg's natural habitat, then surely there's enough here to work with.
Sheyd flips his hair out of his face with a quick shake of his head, rubs his chin, and tries to think like a dragon.]
...Stone. Stone retains heat and releases it slowly. Nestling the egg among some sun-warmed rocks for a time would free your hands, my Annaliese.
no subject
You're right...! And if we find a particularly sunny spot, wouldn't that be the perfect place for it to rest and gather some heat of its own? What a clever way to do things this deep in the mountains.
[ With that, she starts to carefully pick her way across the uneven pathway they'd been following, eyeing cracks and ledges along the rock wall to assess their suitability. ]
What do you supposed happened to the poor thing for it to have been unguarded? Dragons guard their gold like old misers, I'd always imagined that they'd guard a child even more fiercely.

[Krile stands outside the treasure room, in the green dress and kerchief that the spirit of the Thief gives her, trying to look inconspicuous while Zidane works his magic inside. So far, it seems like they've got the guard schedule right, but she can't help but be nervous.]
Psst! How are you doing with the lock on that chest?
no subject
Almost got it... How's it lookin' out there? We still clear?

[She presses herself back into the wall, in an absurd hope it will make her more inconspicuous.]
Someone's coming! I think you need to speed up 'almost!'

(He is still worried he might accidentally cause the poor little thing to have a heart attack.
Or to learn bad habits, whichever first.)
no subject
[She corrects. It's not his fault he can't tell the difference in this state, but what can you do?]
And, it's hard to tell. Without a proper mother around it's going to be difficult for her on her own.
[Hint, hint]
no subject
(But he knows, really, as soft as his tone is that Sothis says these things because she's the one that can point out such details about her own kin. Dragons are out his scope of things; then again so is care taking for just about anything outside of the young wards he has as an educator.
Still, he catches the hint well enough in how he cradles the baby dragon which is now yawning in his arms like a comfortable sort of lizard.)
I understand, at least, the most I can do is make certain that nothing hurts her.
(He's the one that's in control of the body in their relationship, so he can handle as much.)
no subject
[Which is of course her way of saying, "I trust you". They've been through enough for her to know he isn't the type to betray his word, even if it isn't always evident by his face or voice.]
...It's concerning though, this little one shouldn't be here [in more ways than one]
It's a blessing and a miracle she's still alive, but by all rights that shouldn't be the case. Was this simply good fortune? Or is there something else afoot?
[They did just stumble upon her egg, and she didn't know any better, it almost looked it was purposely hidden away]
no subject
(Both which are grim, but he speaks from experience and knowing. His work prior to his new position and lot in life had enough of such moments where people could show their more darker sides without a second thought around those they thought expendable or not worth their time. He's thoughtful in how he's looking around, as if to make sure that they weren't about to see the mother instead arrive because they touched her child. So far no sign of that.
Whatever the case is, as unfazed as he is on the thought of them fighting through poachers or the worst part of the scenario, he's not necessarily complaining. They can keep the little one safe.)
I'll have to look to you on what to feed her then, once we get to safety. (He didn't want to still find out if anyone was watching or if the mother noticed in the end, after all.)
For now I'll keep my guard up. If fortunate I won't have to use the divine pulse, if unfortunate, I suppose I am good at fighting with my feet?
(.....a poor attempt at a joke, so he's slowly becoming more 'human' now.)

Looked like it was time to rescue a baby dragon!]
Hey! That's mine!
[He reached out a hand and called upon the Force, dragging the chicken-walker back towards him.]
no subject
... the hell?
[From the cockpit, Buson turned to look back, baffled.]
Alright, if it's a fight you want...
[He tried to send the other, free mechanical arm (the one not presently holding the baby dragon!), not to grab anything, but in a simple attempt to swipe at Maul, hoping to bowl him over, unless Maul simply redirects the other arm, too.
He's not sure how he's controlling his chicken walker (what is he, magnetized? Psychic?), but if the whole mecha's out of commission, he might have to make a run for it and rely on his Pokemon.]
no subject
Maul had nearly dragged the entire contraption back over to him when he got bowled over by the other arm, too focused to see it coming with how his attention was on using the Force. When he got up, his temper was raging. Now he was mad. He pulled out his lightsaber, lit both ends, and leapt up high with the intent of slicing right through the chicken walker’s legs when he brought it down.]
