Yes, it's that time of year, time to set yourself to a strict regimen of self-improvement and wild optimism about your own sense of discipline. Whether it's a plan to eat 5 fresh fruits and vegetables a day, to be more emotionally honest, or to stop letting that demon in your head use your body to go on murderous rampages, declare it before one and all.

Oh, I'll be fine. Nothing has killed me yet. [He sounded quite certain and confident in that matter. Then he looked a little sad.] I just seem to have everyone around me die in my stead.

Then perhaps this year, you should resolve to keep something or someone alive. A houseplant, if nothing else.

Hmmm. A plant shouldn't be too hard or beyond my grasp.

The ones of my home planet are also very tough. Really, anything that survives on Dathomir for any length of time has to be, the native sapient species included.

Indeed. Nightbrothers who cannot survive for any length of time don't usually make it to adulthood. And I've survived things most people cannot possibly imagine.

While I don’t mean to diminish your accomplishment, in my experience, no one can imagine the pain another has endured. We spend all our lives trying to express it, but our individual perspectives form a barrier between us.

Oh, there are ways. One of my oldest foes took everything from me, so I took something precious from him in return, something he shall never get back or be able to replace. And thus, the scales between us are evened out just a little bit more.

[Maul was deluding himself though. Nothing, no matter how much pain he put Obi-Wan through and even if it lasted for a thousand years, would make him feel like the man had suffered enough. But he felt there just had to be a way to do so. If only he found the right one, then his revenge would be complete.]

Is that really satisfying? Revenge? I have no way of getting it on the source of my pain, so I don't know how it would feel.

It soothes some of my pain. Not all of it but some. He hurt me badly and so I hurt him back. He's deserved everything he's gotten at my hands.
