It's a title some have given me. And it's mostly because I'm more powerful than most of them...

That's an impressive title! So maybe the other mages aren't bad even if they're not as good as you. That'll probably make them happy to hear that.

I suppose. I can show you my favorite spell, if you'd like.

Maybe! You're not going to use it on me, right? I don't like pain very much. Unless it's a spell to give me good luck. That would be okay.

No, nothing like that.

[ She steps back a pace and then her staff lifts and - in a burst of light and petals they're surrounded by a field of wildflowers. ]

[ Fai looks around in amazement and with a small amount of envy. She can so easily do what he cannot: create. His magic can only destroy and yet with ease, this girl has created an entire field of beauty.

Still smiling, he bends down to pick a flower and hold it out to her. ]

You're right: that is a very strong spell. Uou live up to your name.

[ She laughs, soft and light, and reaches out to take the flower from him. ]

Have you ever made a crown from them?

[ Fai isn't shocked by the existence of magic, not even when performed in front of him. ]

Yes, actually.

[ She seems a little amused by that. ]

Or I should say others have.

Then can you help me? I want to make two. We can make a third if you want another one.

[ And she's happy to settle down in the flowers and start in on making a flower crown! ]

[ His practiced hands betray the fact that he's made his fair share of crowns. ]

[ Fai offers the same greeting in return. It's not the one from home, but he's good at adapting. ]

Which flowers are your favorite?

These blue ones.

[ Funnily enough, the ones she'd summoned. ]

They're not as common as they used to be. But they're very pretty.

Would it be too naive to ask if this is what magic is used for in your world?

[spellcollect]

It would be pleasant, wouldn't it? But it's also used for other things. Some of the most useful and ancient magic does things like this... cleaning laundry or statues or pots. Finding lost objects. But most mages use it as a tool for killing.

[ Including her, to be fair. ]

[ He claps his hands. There's no surprise to find that magic is used for a weapon. ]

It can clean for you, too? I'm really jealous, now. That sounds way more useful than using it to fight.

That's why it's the more powerful magic.

[ She nods. The fighting is very useful, yes. But being able to instantly clean your laundry? Priceless. ]

[mommacat]

[ Fai can fight. He's extremely powerful on the battlefield, but this is something his magic can't touch. It's as if he'd find too much value in it if it could do more than kill. ]

Show off.

[ He says it more in agreement and with warmth; he knows she isn't, and he's the one who asked him to show off.

Fai places the finished flower crown on his head. ]

If you were a princess, would you like this one?

[ She regards him curiously. ]

Quite possibly. But I haven't met many princesses.

[ Not that she's interacted with extensively, anyway. ]

I don't think I'm a good judge of what princesses enjoy.

I've never been a princess, either. But she's also a cute girl. Is this something a cute girl would like?
