Shouldn't we? It sounds like you have a lot of stuff going on. They say a drink makes everything tomorrow's problem. I don't buy that, but it's still good to indulge sometimes.

I am fond of good food... I suppose a drink wouldn't hurt.

We can go to a place that sells both. I'm actually really good at holding my drink so I won't get drunk. In college, when you're drinking, it's usually in a room with a lot of friends and cheap alcohol since most of us don't have high paying jobs yet.

[ Luke didn't realize this day would see him having a drink with King Arthur, the original, but why not go with the flow?

Ale. Wine. Occasionally harderiquor as well. So I'm happy to see what they have and partake of what's available.

[ Luke's friend group consists of both men and women so he's capable of keeping his pace slower to accommodate smaller legs. ]

Cheap wine? I don't think bars usually keep the good stuff. Maybe they do? I don't usually go to bars to order it.

[ The name isn't mocking; Luke just has a habit of talking to most people as if they hadn't just met. ]

[ Luke chuckles. ]

It wasn't a serious name. Unless it was meant to be. You haven't really enforced the royalty thing.

[ Luke holds the door so that she can enter the bar first, but he's close behind; he knows what can happen to girls in bars. While he isn't the largest of guys, he's large enough and played football in high school.

Never mind that she can probably easily defeat anyone around them. ]

Let's grab a table. The bar gets pretty loud.

[ Which can be fun, but not for a first meeting. ]

[ He doesn't really have to worry about her, but... well. She appreciates a itny bit of chivalry. She surveys the bar and then nods, leading the way towards a side-table and sliding into the booth. She gestures for him to join her. ]

Having to yell to be understood would make this a poor social encounter, yes. I need to consider what I might order...

Have you ever tried a Blooming Onion? I bet that wasn't something from England, right?

[ Luke grabs the menu that's kept at the table, but his mind does an inventory of typical bar food. ]

[ Suddenly, it hits Luke: Saber's likely accustomed to something a bit more upperclass. ]

It might seem kind of weird at first, but if you don't like it, we'll find someplace a little better, okay?

[ But he only has a low paying job while paying his way through college... ]

Uh. I have not tried it.

[ She replies with a firm, polite nod. ]

Although I am willing to try almost anything. [ However... she does definitely prefer more "upper-class" stuff. Or at least stuff that isn't just deep-fried in oil. Sadly, her Alter self is not here to take that hit. ]

Please, proceed. I can hardly object when you are treating me.

[ Luke laughs; despite being an actor, he hides few things in his everyday interactions. ]

But I shouldn't be surprised that you're adventurous, right? You've done stuff a lot braver than this. You might even be surprised. It's really good, especially with ranch dip.

[ As the waitress approaches them, Luke orders the dish along with a diet soda for himself - he doesn't want beer in addition to the beer batter, but he allows Saber to make her own call on that decision. ]

[ Saber goes for a beer - after all, it's part of why they're here - and decides she is going to sample this mysterious new food. Even if it isn't the healthiest. ]

I'm not sure I would call it all that adventurous. I've just grown fond of food over time... isn't that... normal?

I think so. Food's good so who wouldn't be fond of it? But it's like trying food in a foreign land, right? Almost. Not everybody is willing to try something new, but that's how you find even more delicious stuff.

Precisely. I will try almost anything at least once.

[ She nods firmly. ]

Besides, I dislike backing down from a challenge.

You wouldn't be famous if you were.

But man, I never thought you'd look like this, or that all the other weird stuff would happen. I thought you were a big guy, not a small girl -- used to be. You know.

[ Luke still isn't sure how to deal with that aspect, but. ]

Is Merlin real?

[ Saber seems thoughtful. The beer arrives and she pauses to take a sip. ]

So yes, he certainly existed.

[ He certainly existed. How many other myths and legends can she tell him about? Luke is curious but doesn't want to make this an interrogation. ]

How is it?

[ Instead of sipping his own soda, he swirls the stray a little, hands idly busy. ]

It's probably not as good as wine or something more fancy, but there's a charm in bar beer, too.

[ She responds with a slow nod and another sip. ]

Different from the wine and beer of my own time. But enjoyable.

[ She cocks her head curiously. ]

What do you think of your own beverage?

[ His shoulders sag in relief. Luke doesn't have the resources to really treat a king so it's good that she finds his world enjoyable instead. ]

It's just a soda. You ever have one?

I've had one or two since my arrival in this era.

[ She nods. ]

They're very sweet, usually.

This one is a diet so it's less sweet. I'm not playing sports as much anyway so I can't be as crazy as I was then.

Not that it will stop him from partaking in the meal. ]

[ She lens over and picks the glass up. She takes a cautious sip and then sets it back down. ]

...perhaps too sweet for my taste. At least in liquid form.
