1. Chased: Bears, tentacly monsters, giant vengeful wasps. You need to escape from it but you can't find a way.
   
2. Trapped: Elevator, sinking ship, cave. You're in and you can't get out.
   
3. Performance: It's often quoted that people fear public speaking more than they fear death. You don't know the script, you've never seen this Powerpoint, the teleprompter is blurry as hell... forget falling, you're about to die on stage.
   
4. Hated: You know those dreams where everyone you know accuses you of something terrible and they all hate you now? Yeah. It's that one tonight.
   
5. Disaster! You're on an island and a volcano erupts! You're next to a river and it floods! Never mind how geologically, climatologically, or physically likely it would be in this location in real life, it's happening now.
   
6. Haunting past: Your bad memories are just waiting for you to let your guard down, and what's more unguarded than sleep?
   
7. Wildcard: There are infinite nightmares in infinite combinations... why not put together your own?

It wasn't like Jeremy had any friends. There had never been someone to stand with or for him. When the chips were down it was up to him to defend himself. Yet he knew with perfect clarity that everyone hated him. His power slipped through his fingers like running water, but he was able to feel the strange topography of the world spreading infinitely. It must be a dream, a nightmare, but as the knowledge rose, it was as quickly dashed away. Murderer, the growing crowd intoned. They weren't wrong there, but the body count he had did not seem enough to engender this kind of hatred. You have, you will, kill us all, the crowd added as if understanding his doubt.

"I wouldn't," he said, and at the same time he knew how easy it would be.

Easy, the crowd hissed and pressed in as he tried to take a step back. Some distant part of his mind battered itself, trying and failing to find wakefulness. The rest of him tensed, ready for whatever the crowd might do-caught between believing he should be punished and knowing he did not deserve it.

[It was hardly the first time that Beatrix had ever had a dream about him. Or one with him in it. Early on in their back and forth complicated courting sessions, she'd actually dreamt about him a fair amount, usually as she was trying to figure out and understand her feelings on the matter. Why she cared about him as much as she did. Why she had any interest in the man to begin with. Why she bothered to go so out of her way to protect him or give him the kind of life she thought he was both worthy and deserving of.

Of course, that all led elsewhere, and by 'elsewhere,' that really meant the present course of events. Sort of.

She could certainly say that she didn't have too many nightmares involving him. If anything, Dante was the one capable of retrieving her from said things. Sleeping with him at her side, she'd never slept so soundly, and even on nights where she was troubled by such dark and dreary exchanges, he'd been there enough to comfort her in his own way, though she was disinclined to share too much about anything she might have dreamt of.

Giving voice to such things, after all, was more likely to bring them to truth rather than fiction developed by a mind addled with the stressors of day-to-day life.

Beatrix didn't know what to make of the current happenstance. Another place she didn't recognise. A sense of ill foreboding and tension that lingered in the air, settling a proverbial weight atop her shoulders. Something that simply didn't feel right. Something she didn't want and something she didn't understand, even though she couldn't possibly be fully in the know.]

...Dante?

[Because little did he know that when she found herself without a direction, she relied on him to guide her. She never would have admitted that easily or openly, but in darkness, Dante was, ironically, her light.]

[ Vash has had the same nightmare countless of times now; forced to relive the worst moment of his life over and over again often when he closes his eyes to sleep. Sometimes he's his much younger self in the dream, so small and helpless, and sometimes he takes the shape of his current self, much taller, but no less helpless to change what unfolds in the memory-turned-reoccuring-nightmare. Even though a part of him is often aware that he's dreaming of the past, the knowledge does not allow him to change the outcome of the scenario. He goes through the same motions always, like a recording put on loop: he greets the sleeping passengers aboard Ship Five, the ship shakes abruptly and the alarms blare, he goes to look for Rem and Nai, his world proceeds to brutally fall apart because of him. It's a purgatory he feels he deserves for the hand he had in his twin's plan, however unintended it might have been.

Tonight is no different.

The ship shakes violently as explosions rattle it and Vash is send hurtling through the long hallways in search of familiar, dear faces. The weight of his mechanical arm by his side — a reminder of all the years that have passed since this very moment — does nothing to make the tight panic in his chest lessen. His grown feet trace the very steps his child self took with the same urgency and fear. He runs as fast as he can to find the only safe haven he's ever known, gunning for her quarters where he knows he won't find her, but he'll see her soon.

Or at least, that's what's supposed to happen. The pattern is broken for the first time in over a century when Vash turns a corner and collides with something hard. He's knocked back, the wind forced out of his lungs as he hits the floor in an ungraceful sprawl of lanky limbs. The shock of it is what registers first, causing a split-second delay before the pain of the collision follows and he lets out a groan. ]

Oww, wha-?

[ Between the disorientation and the fall, his vision is blurry, only catching a vague red shape he can't quite make sense of right away when he lifts his head to squint at the source of his memory's unexpected disruption. ]

The shape of the city shifts with every moment -- sometimes it's a wild west fantasy of oversized wooden storefronts, sometimes it's towering spires of brightly lit glass, sometimes it's mud brick, sometimes it's familiar in the most heartbreaking way -- but the fire is constant, the smoke thick and choking. Rubble blocks side roads, the wind stirs showers of embers that catch on every vulnerable surface, and beneath the roar of the flames are the distant cries of the panicked residents, struggling to flee. ]

But this isn't his nightmare. The buildings are too varied, the people too detailed to be the ink-smudged people in his memory.

So he does what he always does. Link runs toward the heart of the fire. ]

Lucas has never seen the ocean, at least not in person. Max has shown him a few snapshots of California, the ocean waves lapping up a golden beach, and he thinks he wants to see it with her some day. He’d never say it to her because it’s bordering a little too far on the sappy end of things. Or, at least, he wouldn’t have said it to her before, but now he’d really like to tell her and see her nose scrunch up and hear her call him gross or something like that. He’d say anything to her if it meant she’d open her eyes and complain about being stuck in a hospital bed for a month.

He’s also never been on a ship and yet here he is, in the middle of an ocean on a ship. It should be odd and it is, a little, but he’s more concerned with the feeling of dread that’s filling his gut. The ship deck shifts under his feet and he reaches out for the wall against the choppy back and forth of the stormy water. He can see the storm outside through the small round windows and it looks dark and dangerous. He holds onto the wall for balance as he makes his way towards the captain’s controls, but there’s no one there. The water is dark and inky blue, angry white foam rolling on the top of every wave that hits the ship, getting bigger and bigger by the moment. Lucas looks around for help. For someone to do something, but there’s no one.

He feels his heart move into his throat as he pushes through door after door in the giant ship, rocking back and forth with more and more force until he shoves the door open to an enormous ballroom. It’s decorated in blue and white tablecloths, balloons and streamers. There’s a massive chandelier rocking precariously from above, the crystals clinking bitterly against each other. And there, in the center of the room, is Max.

Lucas stops, even as the wind outside seems to pick up and waves crash against the side of the ship. His voice trembles as he forces himself to speak. “Max?”
